Reception Newsletter Autumn Term

Dear Parents

Welcome to the Autumn Term, during which we will be spending valuable time settling the children into the school routines and starting to assess them.

Topic

This term our topic will cover ‘Colours’ – in particular colours in the environment – fruit and vegetables and seasonal changes.  Towards the end of term we will of course focus on Christmas, although other festivals such as Harvest Festival and Hannukah will also be experienced.

Although we do not encourage toys to be brought to school children may contribute to the class displays by bringing in objects relating to the work we are doing. If in doubt please check with us.

Reading

A separate letter will be sent home regarding phonics and reading.

Maths

This term we are covering many areas within mathematics.     Much of the work encourages the children to use what they have learnt in ‘real life experiences’ and a lot of the work will be done practically. Any chance for the children to take part in counting, sorting and recognising numbers and shapes within the environment ‘at home and about’, would be most valuable.

P.E.

We will start changing for PE after half term.

The children will need navy shorts and a white T-shirt in a bag, all clearly named.  Please do not buy PE shoes. We will not be using them until the summer term, by which time your child’s feet will have grown!

Please send this to school on a Monday to remain until Friday.   We have PE on Mondays and Wednesdays.   It would be helpful if you could dress your child in clothes they can attempt to take off and put on themselves.

(Please avoid lace up shoes, unless your child is confident in tying them by themselves)

In the interest of a child’s health and safety jewellery should not be worn to school.  On PE days earrings should be removed at home.   Long hair must be tied up.

Dinner money should be sent in a named envelope on Monday mornings, identifying which days a school dinner will be required.

For security reasons, and to avoid any upset for your child,  please ensure that you let us know if someone different is collecting your child.  It is preferable to have this information in writing, though we understand that these situations can arise at the last minute.  On these occasions please contact the school office.

If there is a regular set up i.e. a day per week that someone other than the main carer is involved, please provide this information in writing

We are trying to develop the children’s confidence and independence, and therefore would value your support particularly when leaving your child in the line when the bell goes each morning.   We will be collecting the children from the playground, but unless absolutely necessary, would appreciate that if you want to see us, please do so after school when more time can be given to address certain issues.

Many thanks for making us so welcome during the home visits. They have provided us with a valuable insight into your child.

Thank you for your support.   Please do not hesitate to contact us regarding any concerns which may arise during the term.

Mrs J Loney
