Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTAs)
Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.
At our school we have a travel plan to encourage families and staff to use sustainable forms of transport. As part of the plan we also develop training programmes and initiatives for children to partake in so that they develop an awareness of road safety and an understanding of how to manage their scooters and bicycles effectively.
Junior Travel Ambassadors
The Junior Travel Ambassador (JTA) program is an exciting scheme, led by Mrs. Laskar, that promotes active and safer travel to and from school. It is aimed at Year 5 pupils and empowers them to make their own decisions about what they think needs to change to improve road safety for their school. The JTAs encourage pupils to get more active and lead healthier lifestyles.
Every two weeks, the JTAs meet to discuss ways to make the children and adults in our school more aware of how to be safer on the roads and paths around Fordham.
A JTA is responsible for promoting active travel, walking, cycling, scooting, and road safety. As teams within our school community we also promote independent travel to our peers as they prepare for the transition from primary to secondary school.
As part of the promotion, JTAs run the following:
- Carrying out assemblies
- Conducting surveys
- Classroom talks
- Helping to complete the school travel plan
- Running competitions
